Mother Daughter Retreat: The Story Behind the Event
As a therapist who works specifically with teens and young adults, I have the honor of walking alongside mothers and daughters every single day. I am privileged to sit with mothers and their girls as they conquer teenage growing pains, mini battles over iPhone use, moves to college, losses of close friends, divorces, and all sorts of life transitions.
I’ve worked with middle aged women who are worried about loosing their aging moms, college freshman calling home to ask mom to teach them to do laundry over FaceTime, high schoolers who are nervous to tell their mom about their crush, and little girls who don’t want to show their moms the “C” they got on a multiplication tables test.
Despite having worked with women at all stages, I’ve come to realize only one thing about mothers and daughters. A girl’s relationship with her mom is an important and ever changing building block for self-acceptance, self-love, and self-efficacy. Mother daughter relationships are tough. They require work, trust, humility, vulnerability and a whole lot of love. But with the right support, I believe that all mothers and daughters have the ability to deeply connect with one another.
For the past few years, I've dreamed of creating a retreat where moms and their girls could authentically connect, cultivate a deep sense of trust, and have a blast together. So often mother-daughter relationships get cluttered with trips to the grocery store, texts that are lost in translation, and homework assignments. I dreamed of creating a space for mothers and their daughters to connect not only with each other but also with themselves as individual women.
This May, I've teamed up with an amazing human being, Tanya Folsom of Fulcrum Adventures, to make this a reality. We are excited to announce that we will be hosting our first Mother-Daughter Retreat on May 7th from 9am - 4pm. This retreat will feature a high ropes course, mother daughter letter writing, and a transformational relationship curriculum. This Mother-Daughter Retreat is designed to create an experience of authentic trust, safety, and facilitated sharing that will lead to both mothers and daughters expressing their fullest selves!
If you or a mom you know would like to get connected please feel free to give me a call at 805.796.3349. We would love to have you there!
