Many are moving out of cities and into places like Santa Barbara, CA during the global pandemic brought on by COVID-19. The American Riviera is the ideal location for an escape into nature. While it’s important to stay home and prevent the spread of COVID-19, we have found activities that allow for an escape into nature while keeping a safe distance from others promote mental wellness. Vitamin D, endorphins, and adventure are the perfect trio for promoting mental health during this global pandemic. Here are a few of our favorite adventures that you can take advantage of this summer while social distancing:

Hike in the Mountains

Santa Barbara is known for the multitude of hiking trails that can be found up and down the coast. There are trails for all fitness levels.

If you’re looking for an easy walk in nature with incredible ocean views we highly recommend The Douglas Family Preserve. The preserve sits on the sea cliffs, overlooking Arroyo Burro Beach. This dog friendly park is set on 70 acres of ocean-front property lined with eucalyptus, cypress trees, and over 3 miles of trails.

If you’re looking for a moderate yet beautiful hike to get out in nature look no further than Inspiration Point. The trail is 3.75 miles round trip when accessed from Tunnel Road and will lead you to the point where you’ll get to enjoy views of the city and the ocean.

If you’re looking for a hard hike and a good challenge check out the Cathedral Peak Hike. This 4.5 mile hike offers an additional element of adventure as certain sections require rock climbing on a ridge.

Paddle in the Santa Barbara Harbor

If you’re looking to cool down and play in the ocean on a hot day we highly recommend renting a paddle board in the Santa Barbara Harbor. The Paddle Sports Center is offering “Touch Free” Rentals to ensure limited contact with others while enjoying the beauty that the harbor has to offer.

Picnic at the Rose Gardens

The Santa Barbara Mission Park and Rose Gardens make for the perfect picnic location for summer. The expansive lawn offers a recreational area for families and friends to gather outside while maintaining social distancing. The Santa Barbara Mission makes the perfect backdrop for a summer picnic.

Ride a Bike by the Ocean

Over the years, Santa Barbara has become a very bikeable city with bike paths along the coast and throughout the city. The Cabrillo Bike Path offers 4.5 miles of bike path from Leadbetter Beach to Butterfly Beach. It is a great option for those who are looking for a safe outdoor activity in the city this summer. Bikes can be rented from Santa Barbara Bikes to Go starting at $10/hour.
